Course Objectives

The aim of the course is to have our Graduates ready for employment within a legal and/or para-legal environment or within a secretarial field.

The course is directed in such a way that graduates will be ready for employment through knowledge of the secretarial criteria required to work in an office environment, an understanding of traditional areas of law, general office procedures, typing and word processing of documentation and general correspondence.

As part of the course, graduates will develop:

  • a working knowledge of a word processing system and its use within a legal office environment
  • the ability to produce general correspondence and documentation
  • dictaphone typing
  • copy typing
  • an understanding of a legal office environment
  • an understanding of their role within the legal office environment including what employers are looking for in an employee (from different points of view such as human resources departments and owner/directors).

To achieve the optimum results Just Legal Jobs and Training courses also include interview techniques and resume preparation to ensure our graduates are “Job Ready”.

Course Pre-Requisites

Entry pre-requisites include the following competencies:

  • ability to read, comprehend and discuss information in English
  • write in English
  • ability to participate in small, informal groups
  • ability to use and analyse simple data, relation and pattern, number, measurement and shape

Job Seeking Skills

The Certificate II course covers interview techniques and preparation of your resume.

Our Human Resources Division also offers a placement service for graduates of the course. This placement service is free of charge and is currently undertaken from our Melbourne office.

Course Outline

This course includes:

Comprehensive Course Notes

Comprehensive course notes are provided during the course covering all theory aspects of the course.

Certificates

All students, on completion of the course and after assessment of their assignments will be presented with a Certificate II of Business.

Students who do not complete the course will be provided with a Statement of Achievement of completed modules.

Portfolio

All students will have a complete portfolio of work produced during the course to keep. It will contain work relating to the areas of law and the administration involved within a legal environment.

Students are required to complete 12 modules.

  • BSBCMN211A - Participate in workplace safety procedures
  • BSBCMN212A - Handle mail
  • BSBCMN213A - Produce simple word processed documents
  • BSBCMN216A - Create customer relationship
  • BSBCMN217A - Process customer feedback

Secretarial Keyboard Skills

The following skills will be covered:

  • Extensive touch typing training (including both accuracy and speed)
  • Intoduction to computers and word processing
  • Typing and word processing of correspondence and documents relating to all aspects of this course
  • Dicta typing
  • Training in the use of of Microsoft Word, which is widely used within office environments.
  • Internet
  • Email
  • Outlook
  • LawPerfect training*

LawPerfect is a legal precedent documentation package which is used widely throughout the legal industry. This component of the course must be undertaken at our Melbourne office.
